The department is equipped with a biomass quality laboratory capable of performing the following analyses:
- fibre (lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose),
- ash (content, melting behaviour),
- mineral analysis (P, K, Ca, Mg etc.),
- elemental analysis (C, H, N, S),
- substrate-specific biogas and methane yield,
- gas chromatography
Field trials are performed at the university’s agricultural experimental station, which covers an area of approx. 400 hectares spread over five sites in different climatic regions of south Germany. The experimental station is fully equipped with specialized machinery for plot-trial management.
