At the University of Hohenheim we are fully committed to educating system changers. That is why we developed the open online course 'Concepts of Sustainable Bioeconomy', which provides a holistic and interdisciplinary perspective on bioeconomy to all students, from bachelor programs to researchers, practitioners, employers and everyone working and interested in this vibrant field.

About the course:

The open online course "Concepts of Sustainable Bioeconomy" describes the bioeconomy and its underlying concepts from a meta-level. It addresses key questions such as: How can bioeconomy contribute to sustainability? What is the role of innovation and knowledge in the bioeconomy? What is necessary for the transition towards a sustainable bioeconomy?

In this course, more than 30 instructors contributed to describe bioeconomy, its underlying concepts, varying perspectives and approaches for its implementation as a transformative pathway to mitigate climate change and foster sustainability.

This course was developed by the University of Hohenheim as part of the strategic partnership ABBEE (Accelerating the transition towards the Bio-Based Economy via Education), funded by the Erasmus+ program. It is one of four courses offered by leading European universities in the field of Bioeconomy.

Who can join?

The course is targeted towards Master-level students from different programs, practitioners (future employers of bioeconomy students, professionals working in bioeconomy sectors) and future students of M.Sc. programs related to bioeconomy as well as persons interested in lifelong learning and sustainability. The participants of this course can use the provided contents to expand their knowledge, reflect critically and start or join the bioeconomy dialogue both locally and globally!

Integrable into curriculums for Higher Education Institutions!

The course can be adopted by Higher Educations Institutions and integrated in their curriculum.
